Buy Gold Necklace
How can you know if it's a solid gold necklace right?
I'm trying to sell a gold necklace crucafix line, but I can not tell if it is real gold. I think it is but how can I find? It has a gold chain and cross that it is gold and the Jesus is gold, silver or white. Can anyone help? This necklace was bought my one of my relatives and my knowledge, that only purchase real gold … not false. thanks in advance.
The lack of a hallmark (10k, 14k, 18k, etc) is not indicative of whether your piece is gold or not. In the United States is against FTC regulations for the jeweler to hallmark a piece of jewelry unless it is accompanied by a manufacturer brand. So, when I started making jewelry, and have a brand of mine, I my jewelry Hallmark. Now that I have a manufacturer's mark, I stamp my jewelry with the appropriate metal hallmark and my maker mark. A jeweler can not only to look at a piece and tell with certainty whether it is gold or not, the jeweler will test for determined. Strictly scientfically a sample of the metal in question must be analyzed in a test lab, but the following two tests have been used for many years and often are sufficiently accurate for a craftsperson or the owner of the metal in question. To answer "Is it gold?": With a small file, make a scratch in an inconspicuous place. While the use of rubber gloves, use of wood, glass or plastic stick to apply a drop of nitric acid to the point presented. Monitor the reaction. When done, rinse everything with water. If no reaction is gold. If there is a bright green reaction, which is the base metal. If there is no green at zero, which is a layer of gold on metal (gold badge). If there's a milky reaction in the zero, which is a layer of gold on silver. To answer "What Karat Is It? "Determining karat requires a testing kit containing nitric acid, aqua regia, samples of known karat, and a touchstone of slate or ceramic. The gold object of proof is rubbed on the stone ( "touched") to leave a streak. A parallel line is made with one of the test pieces carats known. Both brands are flooded with acid and the reaction is observed. When the sample colors in the same proportion as the test run, a match was made. Nitric acid is used for low karat gold, aqua regia is needed for more carats. Note: These tests are for your information. They do not are accurate enough to trust that represents a piece for sale. Most jewelers have testing kits used to determine whether something is gold or and not its approximate karat. It's probably easier to bring the issue to a jeweler in the creation of test kits yourself.
